Essential Tips for staging your home

Awesome tips for home staging!

Let’s face it, we live in the era of Pinterest and reality shows and although it may seem daunting to make your home look like one of wonderfully staged homes you see on Pinterest or on TV, we can tell you it’s not as difficult as you may think.  It doesn’t have to be an expensive proposition, it just needs to show your homes best features.

Make your space look bigger than it is.

It goes without saying, home buyers love big spaces, or at least the illusion of more space.  The point is to really to remove bulky items such as recliners, oversized sofas or ottomans.  Either store them or move to a friends house while you are selling your home.  Remove those large or extra table leafs as well. Again, the more open the space, the better.  This also allows the home buyer to picture the space for their own things.

Make it more generalized.

The space is obviously very personalized to you, since it’s your home, your story and your memories.  We suggest removing family photos and whatever else can make the space look very personalized to you, instead focus on making it more generic. Keep it simple and clean and of course remove any and all clutter.

Revitalize old or tired decor

So far, this should not have costed much other than some good old elbow grease.  Now it’s time to look at things like pillows, or throws, drapes window coverings, old tired furniture perhaps. Maybe the kitchen cabinets look dated? Could a coat of paint fix those cabinets? Keeping things fresh and light will undoubtedly make the space feel fresh and clean and more importantly – open to the buyers imagination.  Bedrooms as well can’t be forgotten, if you have old tired bedding, a quick trip to “Home Sense” will do wonders.
